Guru is like the full moon, and the disciple is like Ashadh — the month of clouds and rains. If the Guru can shine through that atmosphere of darkness, only then is he the Guru. That's why Ashadh Purnima is Guru Purnima.

The Full Moon of the Guru

A Night the Whole Universe Celebrates

Guru Purnima falls on the full moon of the Hindu month of Ashadha — one of the most sacred days in the Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain calendars. It is the day to honour every teacher, guide, and presence that has illuminated your path.

In Buddhist tradition, this is the day Gautama Buddha gave his first teaching after his enlightenment. In the Hindu tradition, it marks the birth of the sage Vyasa, compiler of the Vedas. In every tradition, the meaning is the same: a moment to bow to the light.

Osho on the Guru

The First Glimpse of Divinity

"In Hindi, gravitation is called gurutwa karshan. Just as the earth gravitates, the Guru gravitates people towards himself — without doing anything. Guru means one who is weight-full, centred, rooted, and has the quality of gravitation."

— Osho

"A real Guru is one who liberates us, and with whom we are in deep love, faith and reverence. A Guru is a presence. Through him one gets the first glimpse of divinity."

— Osho

At Divine Door Nepal, we mark this sacred full moon with Osho's active meditations, silence, and celebration — honouring every teacher, every guide, every moment of grace that has brought us to where we are.

Why Nepal · Why Now

The Land Where the Light Has Always Gathered

Nepal is the birthplace of Gautama Buddha. It sits at the meeting point of Hindu and Buddhist civilisations — a land where the Guru-disciple relationship has been lived and honoured for thousands of years. To celebrate Guru Purnima here is to do so in the very soil from which this tradition grew.

July in Nepal is the heart of the monsoon season — a time of extraordinary lushness, dramatic skies, and a quality of charged, alive stillness. The rains soften everything. The green deepens. The world slows down.

On the night of 29th July 2026, the full moon rises over the hills of eastern Nepal. There is no better place, and no better moment, to bow to the light.

The Retreat

Five Nights, One Full Moon

This five-night retreat at Divine Door Nepal is built around the full moon of Guru Purnima — arriving on the day itself and departing on the morning of 3rd August, carrying the light of the full moon back into daily life.

Each day is structured around Osho's active meditations: Dynamic Meditation opens the morning, drawing energy up from deep within. Chakra Sounds, Nataraj, and Nadabrama carry the day forward into deeper stillness. Nature Walks open the senses to the lush monsoon landscape. Kundalini Meditation at 4pm shakes loose what remains. And each evening closes with the Evening Meeting — Osho's own device for collective silence and celebration.

Swami Prem Bikas

Twenty years ago, Bikas walked into a meditation centre not entirely sure why he was there. Something in a magazine column touched him. He enrolled for a week. By the end of it, something had shifted — and he never looked back. What followed was two decades of daily practice, an open home, and the gradual creation of what became Divine Door Nepal. Not from a plan, but from genuine bliss — and the desire to share it.
